The track was recorded for Hail to the Thief with Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood, Colin Greenwood, Ed O Brien and Philip Selway. The album sessions took place mainly at Ocean Way Recording in Los Angeles with Nigel Godrich and Radiohead producing. Released as a single in 2003, it became one of the guitar led tracks from Hail to the Thief and followed the album lead single There There. The single reached number 12 on the UK Singles Chart. It remains a notable Radiohead single from the Hail to the Thief period and a regular reference point for the album political unease and acoustic electric tension. The song also kept the band connected to more direct rock arrangements after Kid A and Amnesiac.
