Dollars & Cents
Radiohead · 2001The track began as an 11-minute jam from the Kid A/Amnesiac sessions and was later cut into the album version. By early 2000, Jonny Greenwood had added a string arrangement performed by the Orchestra of St John’s players, with Nigel Godrich mixing the song. It was one of Amnesiac’s most conspicuously orchestral tracks and a clear example of Radiohead’s heavily edited, studio-built approach in this period. Contemporary coverage singled it out as a highlight of the album. The song remained tied to the Kid A/Amnesiac era through later archival releases, including Kid A Mnesia, and through continued attention to Greenwood’s string writing. Its collage-like arrangement has stayed one of Radiohead’s best-known examples of early-2000s reinvention.
