Something
The Beatles · 1968Recording
Written during the Beatles’ 1968 White Album period and recorded for Abbey Road in 1969 at EMI Studios in London. The final track featured George Harrison with John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Billy Preston, and a later string overdub session. It became George Harrison’s first Beatles A-side and drew strong praise from Lennon and McCartney. Issued as a double A-side with “Come Together,” it helped give Harrison his first Beatles single to reach the top of the US charts. The song has remained one of the Beatles’ most covered recordings, with more than 150 recorded versions. Its status as a Harrison signature song has made it a standard across pop, soul, and jazz repertoires.
