Dear Prudence
The Beatles · 1968Recording
The track was written after the Beatles 1968 stay in Rishikesh and recorded for The Beatles at Trident Studios in London. John Lennon, George Harrison and Paul McCartney recorded the basic track without Ringo Starr, with Paul McCartney playing drums and George Martin producing. Released on The Beatles in 1968, it became one of Lennon most admired songs from the White Album period. The song reflected the band India retreat and the fingerpicking guitar style Lennon learned from Donovan. It remains one of the Beatles best known album tracks and has been widely covered, including a major 1983 single by Siouxsie and the Banshees. The track has endured as a central example of the band 1968 acoustic and psychedelic writing.
