Angel Of The Morning

Angel Of The Morning

Joya Landis · 1968
Recording

Recorded in Jamaica in 1968 for producer Arthur "Duke" Reid and his Treasure Isle label, with Tommy McCook and the Treasure Isle house band backing Landis. The version circulated as a Jamaican Treasure Isle single and a UK Trojan issue. It was one of Joya Landis’s signature Treasure Isle recordings and a notable early-reggae cover of Chip Taylor’s song. The track helped define her small but durable catalog of 1960s Jamaican releases. The recording has stayed in circulation through Trojan and Treasure Isle compilations and remains one of Landis’s best-known songs. Its continued reissue has kept it in reggae and rocksteady anthology contexts.
