Don't Rock My Boat (Remastered)

Bob Marley · 1968
Recording

Recorded in April 1968 at West Indies Studio in Kingston on four-track, with Bob Marley on lead vocal and guitar, Peter Tosh and Rita Marley on harmony vocals, Hugh Malcolm on drums, Jackie Jackson on bass, Winston Wright on organ, Roland Alphonso on tenor saxophone, and Alvin “Seeco” Patterson on percussion. Carlton Lee engineered the session, and The Wailers produced it. First released on Wail ’N Soul ’M, the track was part of the Wailers’ early rocksteady-era catalog and circulated under several titles, including “I Like It Like This” and “Rock My Boat.” It later became one of the key songs from this period to be revisited and retitled in Marley’s later repertoire. The song’s melody and lyric were reworked into “Satisfy My Soul,” which Marley recorded again in the 1970s and released on Kaya. That later version kept the song alive as one of the best-known examples of Marley’s habit of reshaping earlier material.
