Walk On the Wild Side

The Dynamites · 2011
Recording

Recorded for the Dynamics’ 2011 sophomore album, 180.000 Miles & Counting, after years of touring. The band recast Lou Reed’s song in its reggae-soul-dub approach as part of an album built from covers and original material. The track showed the Dynamics’ method of turning familiar repertoire into smooth, club-ready reggae versions. On release, it helped define 180.000 Miles & Counting as a varied follow-up to the group’s earlier cover-based work. It remained one of the album’s best-known tracks and a durable example of the group’s cover-reinterpretation style. The song also kept the Dynamics visible to listeners who followed reggae and soul versions of classic material.
