Whine & Grine

Prince Buster · 1968
Recording

Released in 1968 as a Prince Buster/Prince Buster’s All Stars single, with Prince Buster as the credited artist and creator. The record was part of his Blue Beat era in Jamaica and the UK. The song was already a Prince Buster favorite from the ska era, and its 1998 Island reissue brought it back into the UK Singles Chart. It reached No. 21 after being used in a Levi’s campaign. It remained one of Prince Buster’s best-known songs through ska revival culture, with later versions and references by British acts including The Beat. Its 1998 chart return gave it a new mainstream audience decades after its original release.
