Madness Is Gladness

Madness Is Gladness

Prince Buster · 1963
Recording

Issued in the UK in 1963 as Prince Buster / Voice Of The People on Blue Beat 170, backed with "Toothache". The original release was produced by Prince Buster. The track became one of Prince Buster's signature ska-era recordings and gave the British band Madness its name. It also secured a place on the album "I Feel the Spirit," reinforcing its status within his early-1960s catalog. Its title remains culturally durable because the band Madness explicitly drew its name from it, and Prince Buster's work continued to be revisited in the 2 Tone revival. The song is still cited as one of Buster's best-known records.
