Surf Rider!
The Lively Ones · 1963The track was recorded by The Lively Ones, an Orange County surf quintet, and issued on Del-Fi in 1963 with Bob Keane producing. It appeared on the band’s debut LP Surf Rider!, alongside a mix of originals and surf covers. Del-Fi and Qobuz both describe it as the band’s most successful recording, a local surf-music smash that still made little national impact. Its catchy arrangement and association with the early-1960s West Coast surf boom made it the album’s signature cut. The song became widely familiar again when Quentin Tarantino used it in the closing sequence and end credits of Pulp Fiction, and Billboard noted that the film renewed attention on the Lively Ones’ Del-Fi catalog. That exposure helped drive later surf-revival reissues and compilations.
