These Boots Are Made for Walking
Symarip · 1970Recording
Recorded by Symarip for the Skinhead Moonstomp sessions in Jamaica, with Roy Ellis on vocals and the core band of Monty Naismith, Frank Pitter, Michael Thomas, and Josh Roberts. The original release credits Graeme Goodall and Phil Chen as producers. It turned Nancy Sinatra’s pop hit into one of Symarip’s signature skinhead-reggae cuts and anchored the Skinhead Moonstomp album’s dancefloor appeal. The track helped present the band as a defining voice of the early UK reggae scene. The recording has remained a touchstone for later skinhead-reggae revivalists and was sampled by Idles on “Never Fight a Man With a Perm.” It continues to circulate as one of Symarip’s best-known album tracks.
