It's A Shame
The Spinners · 1970Recording
Recorded in 1969–1970 at Golden World Studio B in Detroit. Stevie Wonder produced the track and played drums, with the Spinners recording the vocal parts after the instrumental track was cut by the Funk Brothers. It gave the Spinners their first major Motown hit and reached No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also marked Stevie Wonder’s first production for another act, a notable step beyond his work as a singer. The song became the Spinners’ signature Motown-era hit and remained central to their reputation before their Atlantic breakthrough. It was later sampled in Monie Love’s “It’s a Shame (My Sister),” extending its reach into hip-hop and dance music.
