Ain't It Funky Now
James Brown · 1970Recording
It was recorded on November 20, 1969 at King Studios in Cincinnati, Ohio, with James Brown and his band. Clyde Stubblefield played the famous drum break that Brown built the track around. The single captured Brown’s stripped-down, percussion-led funk at the moment it was taking shape and became one of his most important late-1960s recordings. It also brought the “give the drummer some” break into the center of popular music. The track became one of the most sampled recordings in music history, especially in hip-hop and breakbeat culture. Its drum break remained a standard reference point for producers, drummers, and DJs.
