I Got Ants in My Pants

Recorded by James Brown and his touring band during his prolific early-1970s period, with the J.B.'s providing the tightly locked rhythm foundation. The track was issued as a two-part single and showcased Brown's emphasis on interlocking grooves and extended funk arrangements. Released in 1972, the record was a major R&B hit and exemplified Brown's move toward stripped-down, rhythm-driven funk. Its relentless groove and energetic vocal performance reinforced his position as the leading figure in the genre's development. The recording became a staple source for hip-hop sampling, particularly its drum breaks, bass lines and vocal passages. It remains one of Brown's most celebrated funk recordings and a key reference point for producers, DJs and musicians.
