Let's Get It On
Marvin Gaye · 1973Recording
Recorded in 1973 at Hitsville West in Los Angeles for Marvin Gaye's album of the same name. Marvin Gaye and Ed Townsend shaped the session and handled the production. Released as the title track and lead single from the album, it became one of Marvin Gaye's defining hits. Its slow-burn groove and openly erotic lyricism helped set the standard for mainstream sensual soul in the 1970s. It remains one of Gaye's signature recordings and one of the most recognizable songs in his catalog. The track has been widely covered, sampled, and used as shorthand for romantic soul in popular culture.
