After the Dance Is Through
Krystol · 1984Recorded for Krystol’s 1984 debut album Gettin’ Ready at Studio Masters, Larrabee Sound Studios, Devonshire Sound Studios, Mars Studios, and Artisan Sound Recorders in the Los Angeles area. The track was produced by Leon Sylvers III and William Zimmerman, with writing by Pamela Phillips Oland, William Zimmerman, and Wilmer Raglin. Released on Epic in 1984, the track became Krystol’s breakthrough club record and the album’s biggest hit. It reached No. 40 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Disco chart and remained there for six weeks. The song has remained the group’s best-known title and a touchstone of mid-1980s polished R&B production. Later writers have cited its clean, futurist sound as a clear precursor to the 1990s vocal-group style associated with acts like En Vogue, and it was later sampled by Monie Love on “R U Single.”
