Chief Inspector
Wally Badarou · 1984Recorded in the Compass Point/Island orbit as part of Wally Badarou’s Echoes era, with Badarou handling the core performance and production himself. The 12-inch release was later remixed by Paul "Groucho" Smykle, with Chris Blackwell credited as executive producer. The track became the breakout piece from Echoes and helped establish Badarou as a solo artist beyond his session and production work. In the UK it reached No. 46, giving the instrumental a visible chart presence and a foothold in dance and funk circles. "Chief Inspector" has remained a cult favorite in funk, electro, and dance-disco circles, and later reissues and selector culture kept it in circulation. It is still cited as one of Badarou’s signature tracks and a durable dancefloor record.
