Recorded in Brooklyn at Soul Fire Studios with Lee Fields & the Expressions for the album My World. Leon Michels and Jeff Silverman produced the session, shaping the track around Fields’s veteran soul vocal style. A standout from My World, the track helped define the album’s polished retro-soul sound and became one of the release’s most talked-about songs. It drew favorable attention for its warm arrangement and celebratory lyric about women. The song gained a second life through later sampling, most notably on J. Cole’s 2009 track “Ladies” from The Warm Up. It also reached a wider audience through placement in popular film and television culture.
