Why

Recorded in 1982 for the soundtrack to Soup for One, with the track written and produced by Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards of Chic and sung by Carly Simon. The original release was issued as a WEA single in the UK. The song marked a sharp, dance-oriented detour for Simon and became a major international single, reaching the UK Top 10. In the United States it peaked at No. 74 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving Simon a notable late-career chart return. "Why" later gained a second life in club culture and was reissued and rediscovered as a Balearic and disco classic. It was also covered and interpolated by later artists, extending its reach beyond its original soundtrack context.
