Hip Hop Be Bop (Don't Stop)
Man Parrish · 1982Man Parrish and Raul A. Rodriguez developed the track in New York and recorded it at Vanguard Studios, working with a 24-track setup and adding extra keyboard parts from John Robie. Parrish later described the song as one of several prepared for the Importe/12 sessions. Released in 1982, the track became Parrish’s signature record and a cornerstone of early electro and hip-hop dance culture. It drew heavy club play and helped define the sound of the period through its stripped-down drum-machine drive and synthetic arrangement. The track remained a breakdance and old-school DJ staple and was widely sampled in later hip-hop and electronic records. It also reached broader pop culture through later compilations, reissues, and game and film usage.
