Thriller
Michael Jackson · 1984Recording
Recorded at Westlake Audio in Los Angeles, California, with Bruce Swedien engineering the session. Quincy Jones produced the track, with Michael Jackson credited as co-producer and Rod Temperton as the writer. Released as the seventh and final single from Thriller, the song peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1984. It extended the album’s unprecedented run of Top 10 singles and fed the comeback cycle around Jackson’s Thriller era. The track became inseparable from Halloween culture and from the short film directed by John Landis, which helped define the music-video era. It remains one of Jackson’s signature songs and one of the most recognizable pop records of the 1980s.
