Strafe · 1984Recording
Recorded in New York City by Steve Standard, who recorded, arranged, and performed the track as Strafe. The original release was mixed by Walter Gibbons for Jus Born Productions, with George Logios credited as producer and Standard as co-producer. Released in 1984, the single became a major underground club record in New York’s electro and post-disco scene. It was quickly championed by DJs and club crowds, and its Walter Gibbons mix helped define its reputation as a dance-floor staple. The track remained a foundational breakdance-era cut and was widely sampled, reissued, and referenced in later hip-hop and club records. Its chant-driven hook and skeletal rhythm kept it in circulation long after the original release.
