Let the Beat Hit 'Em
Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam · 1991Recording
Recorded in 1991 for Straight Outta Hell's Kitchen with production by Robert Clivillés, David Cole, and Full Force. The single was built around multiple samples and issued as the lead track from the album. The single became Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam’s biggest late-era hit, reaching number one on the US R&B chart and returning the group to heavy radio and club rotation in 1991. It also crossed to the pop chart, where it reached No. 37 on the Billboard Hot 100. The track became a defining early-1990s dance-pop and R&B crossover record, and its sample-heavy production was widely echoed in later club and pop records. It remains one of the group’s best-known songs and a frequent reference point for C+C Music Factory-era dance production.
