It was recorded in 1991 for Born into the 90's, with R. Kelly leading the session and Public Announcement as his group on the release. The album was tracked at Battery Studios, Chicago Recording Company, Jive Studios, and Studio 56 in Chicago. It served as the debut single from Born into the 90's and introduced R. Kelly and Public Announcement to a wider audience. The track became a notable early New Jack Swing and R&B hit, reaching the US and UK charts. The song remained one of the signature early R.
