Just Call Me

The Good Girls · 1992
Recording

The Good Girls — Shireen Crutchfield, Joyce Tolbert, and DeMonica Santiago — recorded 'Just Call Me' with producer John 'L.A. Jay' Barnes III for their second Motown album of the same name, with executive production credited to Darrale Jones and Jonathan Clark. Released in 1992, the title track arrived as New Jack Swing began its commercial peak, with the Los Angeles trio positioned by Motown as a contemporary female group in the tradition of The Supremes, though the album achieved only modest chart success compared to their debut. The track and its album remain a valued document of the female New Jack Swing moment at Motown, and 'Just Call Me' has found renewed appreciation through its inclusion on retrospective compilations surveying the era's sound.
