Honey Dip
Portrait · 1992It was cut during the 1991–1992 sessions for Portrait’s debut album Portrait, recorded in Los Angeles at Aire L.A., Elumba Recording, Larrabee West, One Up Studio, and Trax Recording. The album’s songs were credited to the group Portrait, with the track appearing alongside the quartet’s other self-penned material. Released as the album’s second single, it became a Top 20 R&B hit and helped sustain the group’s early Capitol campaign after their debut single. Billboard chart listings place it at No. 18 on Hot R&B Singles and No. 102 on Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles. It remains one of Portrait’s best-known songs from the early-1990s new jack swing era. Later references and catalogue listings continue to single it out as one of the group’s notable tracks.
