Recorded in 1991 at Metropolis in London, the track was written and produced by Simon Fung for China Black’s original 1992 standalone single release on Big One. The original 1992 release introduced China Black and drew notice in UK reggae and dance circles, but it did not break through as a mainstream hit. The song was later re-recorded and reissued in 1994, when it reached number four on the UK Singles Chart. Searching became China Black’s signature recording and was included on their album Born in 1995. The 1994 reissue turned it into the duo’s biggest hit and earned a UK silver certification.
