Good Old Music
Funkadelic · 1970Recorded during 1968–1969 at Tera Shirma Sound Studios in Detroit, Good Old Music featured Billy Bass Nelson on lead vocals and bass, Clarence Fuzzy Haskins on vocals, Eddie Hazel on lead guitar, Tawl Ross on rhythm guitar, Mickey Atkins on organ and Tiki Fulwood on drums. Written and produced by George Clinton, the recording formed part of Funkadelic's self-titled debut album, released in February 1970. Released on Westbound Records in 1970, Good Old Music demonstrated Funkadelic's emerging musical identity through its extended instrumental passages, distorted guitar work and gospel-influenced vocal performances. The recording helped establish the group's departure from conventional Motown arrangements towards the experimental sound that would define their early catalogue. Good Old Music remains an important recording from Funkadelic's formative period, documenting the musical foundations of George Clinton's expanding Parliament-Funkadelic collective. Its inclusion on subsequent reissues and archival releases has preserved the original band's contributions to the development of psychedelic funk and later alternative dance music.
