Adolescent Funk
Funkadelic · 1976Recorded in 1976 during the Hardcore Jollies sessions, with George Clinton leading Funkadelic and writing the song with Bernie Worrell and Michael Hampton. The album sessions used Hollywood Sound Recorders and United Sound Systems, with Jim Callon, Jim Vitti, and Bob Bishop among the credited recording and mixing engineers. Released by Warner Bros. in 1976 as the closing track on Hardcore Jollies, Adolescent Funk appeared on Funkadelic's first major-label album. The album reached number 12 on the Billboard R&B Albums chart and number 96 on the Billboard 200. Adolescent Funk remains a deep-cut example of Funkadelic's guitar-heavy mid-1970s sound, pairing Michael Hampton's playing with Bernie Worrell's keyboard writing. Its title later echoed through funk revival culture, including Dam-Funk's Adolescent Funk compilation.
