One Nation Under a Groove
Funkadelic · 1978Recording
The track was recorded during the 1978 Funkadelic sessions at United Sound Studio in Detroit. George Clinton produced it, with Walter “Junie” Morrison and Garry Shider among the key collaborators on the record. It served as the title track and lead single for Funkadelic’s most commercially successful album, giving the group its biggest pop breakthrough. The song became one of the defining statements of P-Funk’s shift toward a more dance-centered sound. It remains Funkadelic’s signature song and one of the most sampled and covered tracks in the P-Funk catalog. Its title and groove have stayed culturally visible through later hip-hop, funk, and dance reinterpretations.
