Theme From the Black Hole
Parliament · 1979Recorded during the sessions for Parliament's Gloryhallastoopid album, with George Clinton directing an expanded P-Funk collective that included key members of Parliament, Funkadelic and the Horny Horns. The track was conceived as a funk reinterpretation inspired by Disney's 1979 science-fiction film The Black Hole. Released at a time when Parliament was embracing synthesizers and science-fiction themes, the track extended the group's Afrofuturist mythology into cinematic territory. It demonstrated how P-Funk could absorb contemporary pop-culture influences while maintaining its signature groove. The recording became a favorite among DJs and collectors for its dense arrangement, synthesizer textures and hard funk rhythm section. It has been sampled by hip-hop producers and remains a respected deep cut within the Parliament catalogue.
