Disco Circus
Martin Circus · 1979The track appeared on Martin Circus’s 1979 album Martin "Disco" Circus and was produced at Vogue Studios—Sydney Bechet in France. The release credits list Martin Circus as producer, with Gilles Tinayre handling the strings-and-horns arrangement and keyboard/synthesizer work. "Disco Circus" was the 14-minute centerpiece of Martin Circus’s disco-era reinvention and was issued on the group’s 1979 Vogue/Prelude release. It quickly became a cult club record rather than a mainstream hit, and the Prelude issue helped carry it into the international disco circuit. The track endures as a disco classic: it has been sampled in more than 50 songs and was covered by Todd Terje and The Olsens in 2016. Later DJ and reissue attention has kept it in circulation as one of Martin Circus’s best-known records.
