Chic · 1979
Recording

Recorded in 1979 at The Power Station in New York City by Chic, with Nile Rodgers on guitar and Bernard Edwards on bass guiding the session. The track was cut during the Risqué album era and built around the group’s tight rhythm-section interplay. Released as one of Chic’s signature singles, it became a defining disco-era hit and reached the top of the U.S. singles chart. Its sleek production and bassline made it a landmark record at the height of the dance-music era. The song became one of the most sampled and referenced records in popular music, most famously underpinning the bassline of Sugarhill Gang’s "Rapper’s Delight." It remains a foundational influence on disco, funk, hip-hop, and dance-pop.
