Get Up
Veron Burch · 1979Recording
The track was cut in 1979 at Magic Wand Studios in Burbank, California. Vernon Burch was credited as co-producer, with James Gadson as producer. Released in 1979 on Chocolate City/Casablanca, it served as the title track from Burch’s album Get Up and was issued as a singles-side follow-up to his earlier Chocolate City releases. Its driving disco-funk groove made it one of the album’s best-known cuts. The track became a durable sample source, most famously for Deee-Lite’s “Groove Is in the Heart” and Madison Avenue’s “Who the Hell Are You.” It continues to circulate through sample culture and DJ edits as one of Burch’s signature recordings.
