Soup for One

Chic · 1982
Recording

Recorded in New York City for the 1982 Soup for One soundtrack with Bernard Edwards on bass and vocals, Nile Rodgers on guitar, Tony Thompson on drums, and Chic’s backing vocal and keyboard team. It was recorded and mixed at the Power Station. The track served as Chic’s title song for the film Soup for One and as one of the group’s last notable chart singles in their original run. It kept the Edwards-Rodgers dance sound in circulation at a moment when disco’s commercial peak had passed. Its opening guitar figure became one of Chic’s most recognizable hooks after Modjo built the 2000 hit “Lady (Hear Me Tonight)” around it. The song remains a standard reference point for later dance, house, and sample-driven productions.
