Super Sporm

Captain Sky · 1978
Recording

Recorded by Chicago multi-instrumentalist and producer Captain Sky for his debut album The Adventures of Captain Sky. The track was built around synthesizers, drum machines and layered funk arrangements created largely under Daryl Cameron's direction. Super Sporm became an underground club favorite and showcased an early fusion of disco, funk and electronic production techniques. Its futuristic synthesizer work distinguished it from many contemporary dance records of the late 1970s. The track became a major source for hip-hop and electro producers, with its drum breaks and synth passages sampled extensively during the golden age of sampling. It remains one of Captain Sky's most influential recordings and a staple of crate-digging culture.
