Let's Start the Dance

Bohannon · 1978
Recording

It was recorded at The Master Sound Studio in Atlanta, Georgia, for the Summertime Groove sessions. Hamilton Bohannon wrote it and handled the production, arrangement, and direction, with Caroline Crawford featured on vocals. It was one of Bohannon’s biggest Mercury-era successes and a defining cut from Summertime Groove. The track reached No. 9 on Billboard’s R&B chart and No. 7 on the disco chart. It became one of Bohannon’s best-known recordings and a widely sampled disco track, with more than 20 later songs drawing from it. Its chant and groove kept it circulating in dance music culture long after its original release.
