I Got My Mind Made Up
Instant Funk · 1978Recording
The single was cut in Philadelphia’s Salsoul orbit and remixed in New York by Larry Levan with producer Bunny Sigler and engineer Bob Blank. The finished 12-inch version was worked up at Blank Tapes Studios, New York, from the original session tape. Released in late 1978, it became Instant Funk’s breakthrough, topping the Billboard R&B and disco charts and reaching No. 20 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also became one of Salsoul’s signature crossover dance records and a staple of the late-1970s club circuit. Larry Levan’s remix turned the song into a lasting Paradise Garage classic and one of the best-known extended disco singles of its era. It remains a frequently reissued and compiled track in disco and dance canon.
