Just As Long As I Got You

Love Committee · 1980
Recording

Recorded for Change’s debut album at Fonoprint Studios in Bologna, with vocals cut at Power Station Studios in New York City; the title track was also recorded and mixed at Mediasound in New York. Jacques Fred Petrus produced the session, with Mauro Malavasi serving as executive producer and Luther Vandross on lead vocals. Issued as the second single from The Glow of Love, it became a major club record and spent nine consecutive weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s dance chart. It also introduced Luther Vandross to a wider audience and became one of the defining early Change tracks. The song’s best-known later afterlife is its sample in Janet Jackson’s 2001 No. 1 single “All for You.” It remained a durable club and quiet-storm favorite and has been repeatedly covered and remixed.
