Do Your Thing

Do Your Thing

Lyn Collins · 1988
Recording

Recorded in 1972 in James Brown's People Records orbit, with James Brown producing Lyn Collins and the J.B.'s backing the session. It later appeared on the 1988 compilation James Brown's Funky People Pt. 2. It presented Collins in Brown's deep-catalog funk sphere with an Isaac Hayes cover, and its 1988 compilation release helped reintroduce the track to listeners beyond the original James Brown audience. The recording has remained in circulation through later reissues and became a sample source for hip-hop acts, which kept its groove alive in later decades.
