Run’s House

Run‐D.M.C. · 1988
Recording

Recorded in New York for Tougher Than Leather, with sessions at Chung King House of Metal, Electric Lady Studios, Greene Street Recording, Ian London Studios, and Unique Recording Studios. Run-D.M.C. handled production with Davy D and Rick Rubin. Issued in 1988 as the opening track from Tougher Than Leather, it served as one of the album’s defining singles and a clear statement of the group’s hard-edged sound. Its chant-driven hook made it a standout in the group’s live repertoire and one of the record’s best-known cuts. The track’s title later became the name of the MTV reality series Run’s House, extending the song’s reach well beyond hip-hop radio. It remains a signature Run-D.M.C. song and a recurring presence on compilations and retrospectives.
