Jack The Ripper
LL Cool J · 1988Recorded during the 1986–1987 Bigger and Deffer sessions at Chung King House of Metal in New York City, with LL Cool J and the L.A. Posse on the album and the original 1988 single release crediting LL Cool J and Rick Rubin, with Brian Latture, Dwayne Simon, and Steve Ett also listed on the B-side release. Released in 1988 as the B-side to “Going Back to Cali,” “Jack the Ripper” became one of LL Cool J’s best-known battle records. It was widely understood as a diss aimed at Kool Moe Dee in response to “How Ya Like Me Now,” and it helped define the feud between the two rappers. The track remains a fixed reference point in discussions of classic hip-hop diss records and LL Cool J’s rivalry with Kool Moe Dee. It is still cataloged and revisited in later releases and sample databases, keeping it present in the record of late-1980s rap feuds.
