8th Wonder
The Sugarhill Gang · 1979Recorded at Sweet Mountain Studios in Englewood, New Jersey, with the Sugarhill Gang and Sugar Hill Records staff led by Sylvia Robinson and Joey Robinson Jr. The track was issued as a single on Sugar Hill and later included on the group’s 8th Wonder album. The single extended the Sugarhill Gang’s early run as one of the first rap groups to reach the mainstream chart audience after “Rapper’s Delight.” It became a minor U.S. hit, peaking at No. 82 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spending nine weeks on the chart. “8th Wonder” remains part of the early recorded canon of hip-hop from the Sugar Hill era, and it is still cited as one of the group’s better-known follow-up singles. Its production and hook-driven format have kept it in circulation through reissues, archival listings, and later sampling references.
