Pee-Wee's Dance

Vincent Davis of Vintertainment asked Bronx rapper Joeski Love to write a rap record about Pee-wee Herman, then doctored the song and built its hook around the "Tequila" melody. The record was cut as a Vintertainment release and later picked up for Elektra distribution. It worked as a Pee-wee Herman novelty dance record and a breakout East Coast club hit, drawing enough attention to bring Elektra into the picture. Contemporary coverage framed it as one of New York's latest dance crazes. The track became one of the most sampled rap records of its era and is especially recognized through 2Pac's "Ambitionz Az a Ridah," which uses its drums. WhoSampled lists it as being sampled in hundreds of later songs.
