No Way Back
Adonis · 1986Recording
Recorded at JGM Recording Studio in Chicago and issued by Trax Records as TX112 in 1986. Adonis is credited as producer and writer, with Lito Manlucu credited as engineer on the original 12-inch release. Released in 1986, “No Way Back” became one of the defining early Chicago house records and reached No. 35 on the UK chart in 1987. It helped establish Adonis as a major figure in the scene and gave Trax Records one of its best-known singles. The track remained a touchstone of Chicago and acid house, and later artists reworked it in “Do It Properly (No Way Back)” by 2 Puerto Ricans, a Blackman and a Dominican. It is also widely cited as one of Adonis’s most influential recordings and has been sampled multiple times.
