Recording

Adonis recorded The Poke as Adonis and the Endless Poker's, first issued in 1987 on D.J. International Records. The original release credits Adonis as writer and producer, with mixes including the Jackmaster Mix and Your Turn To Work Me Mix. The record belonged to Chicago's first wave of acid house releases and carried a raw 303-led sound into the international club underground. Its D.J. International issue placed it alongside the label's key late-1980s house and acid output. The Poke remained a recognised Chicago acid title through later compilations and sample documentation. The After Poke Mix was later sampled by DJ Sneak and DJ Funk, extending the record's reach into 1990s Chicago tracks.
