Shake It Up
The Vibrations · 1988Recording
Recorded for Chess in 1974 by The Vibrations, with co-writing credited to Bunny Sigler and arrangement credited to Vince Montana. The release paired it with “Make It Last” on the B-side. It emerged as a rare-groove favorite rather than a mainstream hit, and its upbeat modern-soul sound later made it a staple of mid-1980s London warehouse parties and northern soul circles. The track is also noted for its strong drum break and dancefloor appeal. Its percussion and groove have been sampled by later artists and it has also been covered, which kept the record circulating among DJs and collectors. Reissues and archive compilations have continued to frame it as a prized Chess deep cut.
