Wrath of Kane
Big Daddy Kane · 1988Recorded in New York in the 1987–1988 Long Live the Kane sessions, with Big Daddy Kane working alongside Marley Marl, who produced the debut album’s material. The track was issued on Cold Chillin' Records as the B-side to the 1988 12-inch single "I'll Take You There." "Wrath of Kane" showcased Big Daddy Kane’s battle-rap precision and helped define the commanding style that made his debut era a cornerstone of late-1980s East Coast hip-hop. It circulated as part of the single campaign for Long Live the Kane and became one of the record’s best-known cuts. The track has remained a touchstone for old-school rap fans and later artists, resurfacing on compilations and in sample/reference culture around Kane’s catalog. Its title and performance are still invoked as shorthand for Big Daddy Kane at his most forceful and technically assured.
