Pick Up The Pieces
Joanna Gardner · 1985It was cut in Philadelphia for Joanna Gardner’s debut album, during the sessions overseen by Donald Robinson, Michael Forte, Nick Martinelli, and Bobby Eli. Cash Box noted Remo Leomporra at the controls while the album was being assembled in Philadelphia. The track appeared on Gardner’s 1985 Philly World debut and circulated in the same mid-80s Philadelphia soul and boogie scene that produced several club-oriented releases. It also formed part of the UK 12-inch issue paired with "Watching You," which helped it reach specialist dance and soul buyers. The track became a small cult favorite in later club and sample culture. WhoSampled lists it as a source for Pure’s "Anything Test," SE9 Crew’s "So Sweet," and Tom and Jerry’s "Jack It Up 'And Start Again'."
