Strange Affair

Minnie Riperton's vocal for Strange Affair was recorded in 1978, with new backing tracks completed in April and May 1980 for the posthumous album Love Lives Forever. The track features Michael Boddicker, Tennyson Stephens, Greg Phillinganes, Lee Ritenour, Paul Jackson Jr., Abraham Laboriel, Harvey Mason, Lenny Castro, Paulinho da Costa, and backing vocals by Maxine Waters, Julia Waters, and Stephanie Spruill. Strange Affair appeared on Love Lives Forever, Riperton's final studio album for Capitol Records. The album assembled her last vocal performances with newly recorded arrangements and prominent session players after her death in 1979. Strange Affair remained a deep-cut favorite from Riperton's posthumous catalogue. Its extended arrangement and socially conscious lyric made it a notable rare-groove selection beyond her best-known ballads.
